Mudiali Club

South KolkataFull guideFlagship pandal

A puja marking its 91st year in 2025, known for the opposite of Sree Bhumi’s scale — handcrafted, traditionally styled pandals built in clay and terracotta by the same family of artisans for three generations.

Mudiali Club's Durga Puja celebrated its 91st year in 2025, putting its founding at roughly 1934 or 1935 — making it one of South Kolkata's longer-running community pujas. Where clubs like Sree Bhumi have built their reputation on scale, Mudiali has built its on craftsmanship: its pandals are known for leaning on natural materials — clay and terracotta in particular — worked in a traditional Daaker Saaj-influenced style, rather than the fibreglass-and-steel builds common elsewhere.

The idol itself has reportedly been crafted by the third generation of the same family of artisans, a continuity that's central to how the club frames its Puja: as a deliberate act of preserving Bengali craft traditions rather than chasing a new theme every year. The 2025 theme, "Atmashuddhi" (self-purification), extended that same idea into the pandal's design. Construction typically begins immediately after the previous year's immersion and involves 50 to 75 workers across the build.
